Great Lakes cruising is having a moment—and it’s driving real economic gains across the region. Rising demand for domestic travel, shifting global conditions, and proximity to major population centers are positioning Great Lakes cruising for significant growth, with more travelers choosing experiences closer to home. The sector is delivering increasing economic benefits to port communities, with projected regional impact exceeding $300 million as passenger volumes, port visits, and local spending continue to grow. 

As Cruise the Great Lakes Tourism Director Sally Davis Berry noted, the expansion of cruising is bringing “significant economic benefits to both large and small port communities throughout the region.”
