Planting Trees for Better Health in Cleveland

Planting Trees for Better Health in Cleveland

On October 16, GSGP partnered with the Western Reserve Land Conservancy (WRLC) and Cleveland Tree Coalition to plant 32 trees in Cleveland’s St. Clair Superior neighborhood. These trees were planted as part of an ongoing initiative to promote the public health benefits of trees with the Cleveland Clinic and Cleveland Tree Coalition.

A growing body of research indicates that urban trees can be a cost-effective solution to deliver multiple positive outcomes. Investment in the planning and management of urban trees can pay dividends for health, the environment, and local economies. The trees planted will help bring the many health benefits trees provide to another community in the Great Lakes St. Lawrence region.

Special thanks to Ohio EPA Director Anne Vogel, WRLC Senior Vice President and Director of Thriving Communities Matt Zone, Ohio DNR Chief of the Division of Forestry Dan Balser and Regional Urban Forester Matt Leiden for speaking to our group and WRLC's Manager of Community Forests Thomas Schreiber for explaining the steps of properly planting a street tree. And thank you to the Cleveland Foundation for supporting this work!
