100% Great Lakes Fish Initiative Takes Shape
In recent months, the 100% Great Lakes Fish project team met with the Ontario Commercial Fisheries’ Association, the Michigan Fish Producers Association and with Tribal entities on the Red Cliff Band of Lake Superior Chippewa’s territory in Wisconsin. Building on these meetings and the Iceland Ocean Cluster’s positive assessment of a 100% fish strategy for Lake Whitefish, the project will study the potential of four other native fish species: Walleye, Lake Trout, Yellow Perch, and White Sucker. By exploring the viability of these species, the “100% Great Lakes Fish” initiative expands to fisheries in each of the five Great Lakes.
