GSGP Maritime Day in Washington, D.C.
In March, a delegation including GSGP staff and regional maritime experts traveled to Washington, D.C. to meet with key decision makers. In a series of meetings with Congressional staff, the Great Lakes St. Lawrence Seaway Development Corporation, and the US Army Corps of Engineers, the delegation made progress on efficiently funding the new Soo Lock system and supporting regional efforts to decarbonize the maritime system.
Separately, in April, GSGP Executive Director David Naftzger discussed the region’s progress on maritime decarbonization during the Green Shipping Corridor Network's 1st Collaborative Forum in Chicago. The US and Canadian federal governments plan to develop a Great Lakes St. Lawrence “Green Shipping Corridor Network” that will build on progress made through GSGP’s green shipping action plan.
